About Us
Principal surveyor and owner Captain Kevin Murphy has over 40 years of experience in the Marine
Industry.
From a cadetship with Common Brothers of Newcastle, a seagoing career of thirty years,
encompassing Clean and black oil tankers as well as Ethylene and LPG carriers (both Deep sea and
Coastal trade), Ro-Pax ferries, containerships, General cargo and paper/timber carriers, deep sea
RoRo, standby/guard vessels and Livestock carriers, a year with a lay- up squad in Brunei bay, and
with the last ten years as Master with Dart Line Freight Ferries, carrying out over 2,800 acts of
pilotage and shiphandling on the Thames & Scheldt rivers.
Ten years of experience in the Middle East/North Africa region working for two of the UK’s largest
global marine Consultancies as a surveyor in UAE and Egypt, then Manager in Egypt, Bahrain /KSA,
Qatar, UAE and again Qatar. Travel and working in all parts of the region including UAE, Kuwait,
Bahrein, KSA, Oman, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, as well as further afield in; Turkmenistan,
Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Malta, Sri lanka, China, Malaysia, Angola, South Africa
and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Apart from being an accredited OVID inspector, all types of survey have been completed from
Condition, Suitability, valuation, damage, casualty investigations, cargo contamination, CMID’s (not a
registered currently) P+I club surveys, Preparation of Jack up rig location approvals, rig move
procedures, attended as MWS surveyor on Jack up rig moves, and as hands on rig mover, Pipelay,
diving operations and ROV, sub sea installation work, towage approvals, Approval of demolition
voyages, Load in/Load out , heavy lifts, Float on/off, project management experience on very large
projects, wreck recovery and preparation for tow, Flag state surveys, Shipping company audits for
insurers, preparation & conducting of training courses.
With many years of experience working with people who have English as a second language, I have a
very effective manner and ability to understand them and make myself understood by them.
Equally I am well versed in dealing with situations where standards and actions differ from North Sea
expectations.
